Choice

Choice 01.13.21

Grateful and Thankful

I chose to read

this blog post

this morning.

https://youarelovenow.com/2021/01/13/a-choice-of-love-2/

I responded to it

with this:

The ability

to make a choice

is such a gift.

Sitting in awareness

and leaving that option

of choice open

is allowing yourself

the Grace To Be.

Do I allow myself

to be dragged

into negative thinking

by the ego,

or do I allow myself

to view all things

through the eyes

of the love I am,

that we all are.

During

the most trying moments

when my son

was in the ICU

after emergency brain surgery,

I was consumed

by all sorts of

negative thoughts.

I asked myself why?

I meditate all the time;

why isn't it helping

now?

At that moment,

I chose to seek

that stillness

I was so familiar with.

What came

immediately was this:

"Breath in Love, Exhale Peace."

It brought me home

to my center,

where Love resides.

It calmed

my monkey mind then.

It sustained me

for all the ensuing

difficult times

of his two year battle

with brain cancer.

And now,

as his first Angelversary

approaches,

it comes up

as a choice to make

yet again.

Again I lean on the mantra

that came

from the stillness

that day in the ICU.

I am continuing

to choose

to anchor myself

in it:

Breath in Love, Exhale Peace.

It always leads me

back to the Love

that birthed us all.

Metta Meditation - To All Beings

Metta Meditation Part Deux
02.12.2020

Family medical issues in the Spring of 2018
led me to struggling with my meditation practice
just when I knew I needed to keep it going.
To aid in whatever came next,
to not let fear become my master.
I wrote a blog post
about one of the meditations
that really resonated with me:

Today February 12, 2020,
the Metta meditation was again referred to.
It starts with:
May I Be Happy,
May I Be Well,
May I Be Safe,
May I Be At Peace.

Then shift the focus
to someone you love with:
May You Be Happy,
May You Be Well,
May You be Safe,
May You Be At Peace.
The last repetition
is with someone you have an issue with.

So today, it was revisited with a twist.
We were told
to open our hearts as we did this.
"Place your hands on your heart
with the intention
of opening your heart wide."

The final part
was expanded "to All Beings."
I Wish For All Beings To Be Happy,
I Wish All Beings To Be Well,
I Wish All Beings To Be Safe,
I Wish All Beings To Be At Peace.

This time the meditation moved me even more
than the many times I have done it
over these last few years.
So touched I was
that I listened to the guided Metta meditation
a second time.
As I did,
it deepened my connection even more.
As it was concluding,
this filled my awareness,
"May I Love Myself As Much As the One Loves Us All."

A dear friend writes a blog.
Her blog today is "A Hand Of Love"
As I read my friend Sandy's post,
I was struck by
how much it was like an answer
to my meditation experience.
"let your Soul's knowing rise up to greet you…
…see with your heart, as your Soul rejoices."

At lunch, I told my wife about my meditation.
That Sandy's message today
was an apt description of how I felt.
This feeling that we all are connected
to something so vast
and so very loving was palpable.
Tears of joy graced my eyes,
my arms were awash with truth shivers.
I, too, was rejoicing with my Soul
over the connection we made this morning.

Mindful Breath

Mindful Breath

Focus on the breath,
meditate on it
breathing in the infinite love and light
of the Universe, of God,
of all that is Holy.
Exhaling any, and all things
that no longer serve
the higher purpose
of why you chose
to come into physical form.

Breathing in
the love and light
that you are.
Exhaling all that clouds your perceptions,
clouds you to the reality of your being.

Breathing in love, light, compassion, joy, bliss:
exhale and surrender all that keeps you
from remembering your source.

Breathing in the love
that you are,
the love that is you.
Exhaling releasing all that no longer serves
the spiritual nature of you.

Breathe
witness the gift of physical life
with your spiritual eyes.

Breathe
embracing the gift
and rejoicing with the spiritual nature
of the love that you are.

Breathe in,
breathe out.

You are more than the physical.
You are Eternal.
You are Love,
You are Light,
You are Compassion,
You are Joy,
You are Loved,
and
You Are Home.

Metta

Metta

I first heard of Metta
using the Calm meditation app back in June.
It’s a Buddhist term for loving kindness,
benevolence, or universal love.

It was introduced to me
as a meditative spiritual practice
where you are kind to yourself first,
an as within so without a type of thing.
With a sincere, loving intent you repeat
some phrases like a mantra.
Feeling into the words as you say them.

May I Be Happy,

May I Be Well,

May I Be Safe,

May I Be At Peace.

Repeat them a time or two.
Then shift your awareness and intent
to someone else, someone you love and repeat

May You Be Happy,

May You Be Well,

May You be Safe,

May You Be At Peace.

You alternate between the verses
as long as you desire.
Sit with it how does it feel?

Then you can even see how it feels
to shift your intention to someone
you have an issue with or don’t particularly like
and try it with them.

Which brings us back to the definition
of the Pali word Metta in that:
it is loving-kindness,
benevolence, or universal Love
that is the very essence
of this reflective practice.

I write of this today after finding myself drawn
to use these phrases again and again
in my meditative practice these last few months.

I leave you today with Metta

I Wish For You To Be Happy

I Wish For You To Be Well

I Wish For You To Be Safe

I Wish For You To Be At Peace

I Wish For Your Heart To Feel At Peace.

Make them your own,
phrase them the way it seems to fit You.
Phrase them in a way that allows you to feel them.
May You Enjoy Practicing Metta.

Let Go For This

Align with the Love that you are.

Allow the Love that you are
to express as you.

Let Go of any and all things
not in support of the highest good
of the Love that you are.

Healing Sounds

Healing Sounds

We had an English sound healer Rama Inacio
at Unity of Chattanooga on Sunday
for a workshop.
He led a group of us
through a five-stage healing process with sound.

He opened with a prayer
and asked us just to be open to whatever happened
and to keep our eyes closed.
Commenting how we didn’t have to think.
We could just sit there listening
and experiencing the sound
and turn off our thinking minds.

He started with an aura cleanse
using a giant gong.
This gong could be felt as well as heard.
As he worked his way around the room,
you could sense where it was coming from
and feel it in different ways as he moved around.
We sat in the silence for a bit when it ended
just checking in with our senses
and noticing how much these gong sounds
had affected us.

Then he told us we would start the healing stage
and it was necessary to go to each person
and play notes from a didgeridoo
based on that persons needs.
These didgeridoo notes
in themselves were so moving
as they went from side to side
and front to back
and here and there and back, again and again.

We moved on the balancing portion
of the healing.
Rama brought out a flute
and played and chanted.
By then at times I felt as if I was the sound.
Fascinating how into the pure aspect of the sounds I was
not just listening with my ears
but experiencing them with my whole body.

We moved into raising our vibrations
after the balancing.
For me, this was beyond anything I had experienced.
Rama told us he would come around
and tap each one of us on our foot.
At that point, we were to open our mouths
and just let our soul sound come forth
for an entire breath.

Then inhale and just keep on doing it
over and over.
Mine started as an Om like sound,
very long and drawn out.
Gradually we began raising the volume of it.
He told us to keep doing that.

It was most remarkable.
I heard the other soul sounds
of those around me,
four or five at least
and one who seemed to be chanting words
that I could not comprehend.
The sound emanating from me increased
and with it the feeling
that it was filling my chest
and resonating in my whole upper torso
even expanding it.

At times I would feel an increase in the sound,
and it was changing as if seeking to match
or harmonize with the other sounds,
changing all on its own without
my mental or thinking assistance.
As if seeking to work in concert
with the others in the room.
Those individual soul sounds
I heard around me began blending with mine,
and in doing so, they lost their individuality.

As we kept this up,
the louder we got,
the more blending that seemed to occur
the fuller my soul sound felt
until the whole group seemed to
seamlessly flow somehow into one harmonic reverberation.
We were one as this sound,
all of us.
Again and again
blending as one sound.

An incredible experience
that I am here hours later
just basking in the utter beauty of it.
To me, it was truly
a transformational experience.

The last thing we did was integration.
Rama played this angelic music
and told us just to respond
or not however we wanted.
To integrate our experience into
the Universe, the All That Is,
whatever name you choose.

I found this rhythm flowing in the music
and just fell into humming
in this stepped cadence along with it,
again over and over this went.

He closed the session prayerfully,
and a few spoke of their unique experiences.
I just sat there basking in mine.

No telling what some
of the others would say
to what I write here.
I’m sure others experienced things
far different than mine.
But I am confident we all share a connection,
a oneness with each other,
that is far stronger now
then it was when the day started.
